Learning Goal: I will begin to explore the elements of a short story by plotting For the Birds on a plot graph and by creating my examining the elements.
Minds On: Timed short story task - Write a short story about your life! You have ten minutes!
Action: Pairs, picture, present! Teach the class about your element!
Examine Ernest Hemingway's very short story Baby Shoes.
Consolidation: Write a six word short story!
If time...some GRAMMAR!

Friday, September 15th
Learning Goal: I will continue to examine short stories by reviewing plot graphs and identifying types of conflict in the short story Lamb to the Slaughter. Minds On: Conflict! Can you list them? Can you give an example? Can you make a personal connection? Action: Read Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl and analysis - Complete the task sheet independently. Consolidation: Problems? Monday, 18th - CUBS AND CATS DAY!!!! Go have fun and meet some new friends! |
Tuesday, 19th
Learning Goal: I will continue to examine Lamb to the Slaughter.
Minds On: Recap plot!
Action: Head to the library where we will observe atmosphere and complete our sheets from Friday. Once everyone is finished, we will take up the questions and have a chance to share our alternate endings AND what we think Patrick said to Mary!
Consolidation: What do you think the mood and atmosphere of the library is? Lamb to the Slaughter?
Wednesday, 20th
Learning Goal: I will continue to examine plot, plot graphs and the components of short stories.
Minds On: Short story vocab. Mood and Atmosphere!!!
Action: Read Night of the Twister and answer questions.
Consolidation: Write an alternate ending.
Thursday, 21st
Learning Goal: I will continue to examine short story elements by examining character and character development.
Minds On: Writing Prompt! Think of your favorite tv/movie/video game/book, etc. character and describe them! What makes them likeable? Admirable? Cool? How do you know so much about them? Provide 2 specific reasons.
Action: Read Little Brother and examine how character is developed in a short story.
Consolidation: Extra ending and your alternate ending!
