Prescribed by Law
To be “prescribed by law,” a limit must either be embodied in a valid law or be authorized by a properly delegated official or agency. For example, a government official making decisions on an inconsistent, arbitrary basis would not be acting in a manner prescribed by law. Much of the time, a limitation is prescribed by law in that police officers or other governmental agents are authorized by specific statutes to act in these instances. But the law must provide the officials with clear guidelines or standards upon which to base their assessments; otherwise, their decisions may not be accepted as legally prescribed.

Tuesday, 04th - (finish "Banaz: A Love Story") North Korea
Learning Goal:I will examine why human rights laws are important to Canadians.
Minds On: Finish Banaz and discuss Why is Western culture just as responsible for Banaz’s death as honour-based culture, and what is meant by "Western culture"? Honour killing, "honourcide", or straight up murder? " In 2009 the Shafia sisters were killed by their family in Kingston, Ontario in a so-called “honour” killing. The Shafia sisters reached out for help several times before their bodies were found in a submerged car. Police, family, and Children’s Services in Montreal visited the Shafia home multiple times while the girls were alive; each time, they were interviewed in front of their parents and older brother. Other efforts were made to reach out for help but were accused of making up stories. An “honour”-based culture, a Western culture and both of their ideologies and treatment of women both contributed to the deaths of these Banaz, the Shafia sisters and many other victims of “honour-based” murders." A. Rogers (for full article, click the SWSU link!) Action: "The many crimes of North Korea" - Read and complete questions http://www.thestar.com/news/world/2014/03/02/the_indispensible_guide_to_north_koreas_atrocities.html Consolidation: Discuss If time, we will watch the videos! |
